Robotham, the likely starting point guard, will play his final season of eligibility as a walk-on for the Runnin’ Rebels.

The Akron transfer sat out last season due to transfer rules as a walk-on as well.

Robotham Electing to Remain with UNLV as a Walk-0n.

The Noah Robotham situation has been an interesting one for the Runnin’ Rebels and their fans.  When the Las Vegas native and three-year starter at Akron, elected to transfer before last season and sit out as a red shirt walk on, it was expected that a scholarship would open up after the season, and given to Robotham. The teams projected starting point guard.  However, things didn’t quite play out that way.

After the season, only four scholarships opened up and with four freshmen coming in, there was some concern that Robotham would explore other options since he would have to pay his own way again.  Fortunately for the Rebels, it’s been confirmed that he will be remaining with the team and play his final season of eligibility as a walk on.

This was expected, as there weren’t ever any serious rumors about him leaving, but other schools would have definitely been reaching out to the veteran point guard offering him scholarships.  And he would have been able to play immediately as a graduate transfer.

And even though this may have been expected, it’s still great news to officially get for the program and UNLV’s fans, because in his three years as a starter at Akron, Robotham averaged almost 39% from 3-pt range.  That average coupled with  UNLV’s two sharp shooting freshman, Bryce Hamilton and Trey Woodbury, means UNLV might actually be an above average shooting team from long range next season.
