Nevada’s Gabriel Sewell Enters Name Into NCAA Transfer Portal

Is Gabriel heading to the Pac-12?

The Nevada Wolf Pack have taken a big hit this offseason by losing two key players in DB Nephi Sewell who decided to leave and was going to BYU but is now eyeing Utah and WR McLane Mannix went South to Texas Tech.

Now a third starter could be on their way out and it’s three-year starting linebacker Gabriel Sewell, yes he is the brother of Nephi.

Nevada LB Gabriel Sewell has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Three year starter.
Led the team with 90 tkls in 2018.
Had 7.5 TFL in 2018.

Just because his name is in the transfer portal means he is on his way out, but it seems likely. Gabriel started in 37 of 38 games and was the leading tackler for the Nevada defense this past year.

Here is an interesting nugget from the Oregonian which did a very early preview of Nevada vs. Oregon.

Several leading defenders have to be replaced as well. Linebacker Gabriel Sewell, the brother of Oregon left tackle Penei Sewell, last said he would take the offseason day to day in deciding what he’d do in 2019, though Jay Norvell said he expects him back.

So, Gabriel leaving Reno has been an option for a while. There are a few potential landing spots if he does in fact leave Nevada. First, he is eligible to play right away as a graduate transfer.

Perhaps he would follow his brother Nephi who looks to be on his way to Utah or maybe Oregon where another brother, Penei, is on that roster.

Gabriel will have his fair share of suitors if he does leave the Mountain West, and if he does end up transfering it is just another huge blow to this Nevada defense.
