Can The Wolf Pack Improve Their Record To 8-0?

The fifth-ranked Nevada Wolf Pack will travel to Los Angeles on Saturday night to face off against the USC Trojans. The Wolf Pack are coming off a road victory on Monday night in the Mountain West/Missouri Valley Challenge when they defeated Loyola-Chicago 79-65. The Wolf Pack got to exact revenge on the Ramblers who eliminated the Wolf Pack from the NCAA Tournament last year in the Sweet Sixteen.

Now the Wolf Pack will take on a USC Trojans team that has a record of 5-2 and is coming off a victory over Long Beach State 75-65 on Thursday. This will be the second ranked opponent the Trojans will have played in this early part of the season. The last time the Trojans played a ranked opponent, they played the #20 ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders back on November 19th. In that game, the Trojans lost to the Red Raiders 78-63.

For the Wolf Pack, they will face a Trojans team that maybe without talented freshman guard Kevin Porter Jr. The 6-foot-6 guard from Seattle, Washington who some say is projected to be a lottery pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, has not played in the last two games due to a quad contusion and looks to be questionable for this game.

If Porter does not play, USC has a talented enough team to give the Wolf Pack fits on Saturday. The Trojans have a pair of talented big men in Bennie Boatwright (16.8 ppg, 6.4 rpg) and Nick Rakocevic (14.6 ppg, 11.7 rpg) to go along with point guard Derryck Thornton (9.5 ppg, 4.5 apg) to carry the scoring for the Trojans. It is up to players such as Caleb Martin (21 ppg, 4.7rpg), Cody Martin (10 ppg, 6apg) and Jordan Caroline (17.7 ppg, 9.9 rpg) to stop these key Trojan players in order to defeat USC and improve Nevada’s record to 8-0.
