Spartans vs. Wolf Pack in Sin City
This is the game of the week and frankly a really good game in what college football has to offer over Week 15. There is a lot on the line. If San Jose State wins then they are in their first-ever Mountain West title game and would be in line for their first outright conference title since they won the Big West 30 years ago.
The Spartans not only would have a huge turnaround but also their path to get where they has not been easy. In the preseason, they had to go to Humboldt State to practice which is five hours away. That is why the team has an H on the back of their helmet, to throw a nod for the school to assist them.
Santa Clara County has issued a ban on contact sports, so the Spartans home game last week vs. Hawaii was played at Aloha Stadium and this week’s finale was moved to Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas.
This Spartans team has faced a lot of adversity but are 5-0 and one win away from clinching a spot in the Mountain West title game.
Expect this game to have a lot of points as both offenses throw the ball really well with Carson Strong for Nevada and Nick Starkel for San Jose State — they are both second and third in yards per game.
Each have amazing wide receivers with Romeo Doubs who is a deep threat for the Wolf Pack, tight end Cole Turner, and true freshman Tory Horton had a three-touchdown game last week.
The Spartans have Tre Walker and Bailey Gaither who do most of the heavy lifting this year.
The defensive fronts are good for both teams and Nevada is hoping to get Dom Peterson back on the field in some capacity, he missed last week’s game with an ankle injury. Even without Peterson, the Wolf Pack front is formidable.
The only real difference between these two teams might be the running game. Nevada has Toa Taua and Devonte Lee which is a bit better than the Spartans duo of Tyler Nevins and Kairee Robinson. The San Jose State pair had a huge game vs. Hawaii who was protecting more against the pass. That ground game could be the difference for who could win this game. If someone has a lead and they need to milk the clock, those running backs will be very important.
