Nevada will face Western Michigan in the Quick Lane Bowl on Monday, December 27, at Ford Field, in news first teased by Nevada Sports Net’s Chris Murray and officially broken by Action Network’s Brett McMurphy. The bowl game, which has taken place since 2014, typically features a matchup between the ACC and the Big Ten. The Mid-American Conference has traditionally filled in should one of the Power 5 conferences not be able to fill the spot, but this is the first team a team from the Mountain West will make an appearance. It also marks the game’s return to bowl season after being canceled last year because of COVID-19 concerns.
The Wolf Pack finished the regular season 8-4, with a 5-3 record in Mountain West play, though it remains to be see whether stars like quarterback Carson Strong will participate in the bowl game or elect to focus on early preparations for next year’s NFL Draft. Western Michigan, meanwhile, finished the regular season at 7-5, including a 4-4 record in MAC play that, oddly enough, put them last in the West division owing to losses against Eastern Michigan and Ball State.
Nonetheless, the Broncos have proven they can be dangerous, most notably with a victory over ACC champion Pitt in non-conference play. The Quick Lane Bowl will be broadcast on ESPN, kicking off at 8:00 AM Pacific/9:00 AM Mountain.
