Nevada Demolishes San Jose State 59-14

The Nevada Wolf Pack put on a dominating display of football this Saturday afternoon in Reno as they soundly defeated the San Jose State Spartans (1-10, 0-6) 59-14 to move their record to 2-8 (2-6 in the Mountain West) for the season.
At first, it looked like the Spartans would be the dominated ones as they used a bruising running game led by Tyler Nevens to take an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter. After that score, it was all Nevada as they responded to the Spartans touchdown with a 39-yard touchdown pass from Ty Gangi to Wyatt Demps to tie the game at 7-7.
After the Wolf Pack defense forced a three and out, San Jose State was about to punt the ball but Michael Carrizonsa’s punt was blocked by Wyatt Demps and was returned by Dameon Baber for a six-yard touchdown to make it 14-7 Nevada. In the second quarter, the Wolf Pack went on a nine play, 70-yard drive that was capped off by a one-yard touchdown run by Gangi to make it 21-7 Nevada.
The Wolf Pack defense got in on the scoring action as well when Dameon Baber intercepted a pass from San Jose State’s Montel Aaron and Baber returned it 105 yards to make it 28-7, Nevada.
From there, the route was on for Nevada when after a beautiful 44-yard throw from Gangi to Brendan O’Leary-Orange, Gangi connected with Demps again for Demp’s third touchdown of the day as the Wolf Pack led 35-7. The Wolf Pack tacked on 24 more points to deliver their most complete and dominating performance of this season.
Ty Gangi turned in another exceptional performance today as he completed 16 of 23 passes for 232 yards and four total touchdowns (three passing and one rushing). Wyatt Demps had himself a day as he caught seven passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns and blocked a punt as well.
Dameon Baber also had himself a day as he tallied three interceptions, returned a block punt for a touchdown and became only the third player in NCAA history to score three touchdowns in once game via return (stat per Nevada Football and tweeted by RGJ’s Chris Murray)

Along with Baber, the Wolf Pack defense played their best game of these season as they forced five turnovers and six sacks of which Malik Reed recorded three sacks for his first three sack game of his career.
The Nevada Wolf Pack have a chance to build on this impressive win next week as they travel to San Diego to face the Aztecs next Saturday.
