Previewing The Very Deep Wide Receiver and Tight End Position Groups for Nevada
With the 2019 football season fast approaching, we will take a look at the position groups for the Nevada Wolf Pack. The next position groups we will look for the Wolf Pack is the wide receiver and tight end positions.
The 2019 Nevada Wolf Pack could boast one of the best wide receiver units not just in the Mountain West Conference but in the Group of Five. Nevada’s wide receivers, despite the loss of McLane Mannix who transferred to Texas Tech, are a talented, experienced and deep group. The tight end group for Nevada is a unit that has some talented players that are waiting to breakout and contribute to the Wolf Pack offense. All in all, these position groups for Nevada could be something special in 2019.
With McLane Mannix gone, the lead receiver for Nevada looks to be Kaleb Fossum. The senior from Lake Forest, California actually led the team in receptions with 70 last season. Fossum provides a steadiness for the Wolf Pack offense to depend on during the season. Along with Fossum, Romeo Doubs is another receiver to keep an eye on in 2019. Doubs closed out the 2018 season on a strong note as he recorded 297 receiving yards in the final three games of the 2018 campaign. Expect Doubs to continue to trend upward for the Wolf Pack this upcoming season.
Along with Fossum and Doubs is junior Elijah Cooks (348 receiving yards, six touchdowns) and senior Brandan O’Leary-Orange (214 yards, four touchdowns) who add play-making experience to the receiving corps. The two freshman receivers that could see some significant playing time this season for Nevada are Melquan Stovall and Justin Lockhart. Stovall and Lockhart are both from Junipero Serra High School in Palmdale, California and look to add on to Nevada wide receiver depth.
Nevada’s tight end group lacks star power but has some promising true freshman that could step in and contribute right away. Henry Ikaihihifo and Ryan Smith are two freshman tight ends to watch for in the Nevada offense in 2019. Ikaihihfo (a three star recruit from Lancaster , California) and Smith join an experienced tight end group in Nevada that includes Chrishaun Lappin, Reagan Roberson, Daniel Grzesiak and Ryan Brocks.
The wide receiver position group for Nevada is 2019 is a talented group that has balance and depth as well. With returning veterans like Romeo Doubs, Kaleb Fossum, Elijah Cooks and Branden O’Leary-Orange and talented freshman Justin Lockhart and Melquan Stovall, this unit could be one of the best in the conference and maybe in the Group of Five.
The tight end position group has long on experience but short on production so it is up to the additions of true freshmen Henry Ikaihihfo and Ryan Smith to step up the tight end production for Nevada this season.
In short, this wide receiver/tight end position group for Nevada is going to be a fun and talented group to watch in 2019.
