Nevada Vs Oregon State Preview
The Nevada Wolf Pack return home this Saturday as they face off against the Oregon State Beavers of the Pac-12 Conference. The Wolf Pack will look to bounce back after last weeks loss on the road against Vanderbilt, 41-10.
For Nevada, this will be the first time they are hosting a Power 5 conference team since 2015 when the Wolf Pack hosted another Pac-12 team, the University of Arizona. This time, the Wolf Pack look to have a winning outcome as opposed to when the Wildcats came away with a 44-20 victory over Nevada back in 2015.
Here are a few keys for the Wolf Pack to follow for them to secure the win on Saturday.
The first key for Nevada is putting an emphasis on stopping the Beavers rushing attack. In last week’s over Southern Utah, the Beavers ran for a total of 360 yards and in their season opener against Ohio State, the Beavers ran for 196 yards against one of the best teams in the nation in the Buckeyes.
This Beaver team can run the ball well with running backs Jermar Jefferson and Artavis Pierce, so it is important for Nevada’s front seven to contain Oregon State’s rushing attack on Saturday.
Another key for Nevada is to establish their rushing attack on offense. The Beavers while being very good at running the ball, are not good at stopping the run. Thru two games, Oregon State has given up an average of 278 yards per game. The Beavers gave up 375 rushing yards to Ohio State in the opener and 148 to Southern Utah last week so Oregon State’s glaring weakness is on run defense.
This is a golden chance for Nevada to get their rushing offense going after only gaining 34 yards on 25 carries against Vanderbilt. If Kelton Moore and Ty Gangi (on some designed run plays) can get the running game going then the Wolf Pack should be able to secure the victory.
Lastly, the Wolf Pack must get off to a better start on offense. In the Vanderbilt game, Nevada’s first four offensive possessions ended with three punts and a fumble. No matter the type of team Nevada plays, the offense must play a lot better in the beginning of the game if they are to defeat the Beavers and improve their record to 2-1.
