An Early Preview Of Nevada’s Week Two Contest Against The Oregon Ducks
In this second early out of conference preview for the Nevada Wolf Pack, we preview the Wolf Pack’s week two contest against the Oregon Ducks. The game will be played at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon, on September 7th. The game between the Wolf Pack and the Ducks will be televised on the Pac-12 Network and kickoff is at 4:30pm PST.
Based on the talent that Oregon has, this Ducks team could be a top 15 team when the preseason polls are released. And if Oregon defeats Auburn in the Ducks season opener in Arlington, Texas in week one, Oregon could be a top ten team by the time the Wolf Pack plays Oregon. No matter where Oregon is ranked, Nevada is in for a challenge when they take on the Ducks.
For Oregon they return star quarterback and Heisman trophy candidate Justin Herbert. Herbert, who held off on going to the NFL and stayed for his senior year, leads an Oregon offense that will look to continue its explosive ways. In 2019, Herbert threw for 3,151 yards and threw for 29 touchdown passes and this season Herbert will have even more weapons to work with to go along with an offensive line that returns all five of their starters from last season.

Despite losing leading wide receiver Dillon Mitchell to the NFL, the Ducks return experienced veterans in Johnny Johnson III and Brenden Schooler. The Ducks have also added graduate transfer Juwan Johnson and freshman Mycah Pittman to give the receiving corps for Oregon some depth.
For the running back position for Oregon, the Ducks welcome back CJ Verdell who led the team last season in rushing yards (1,018) and rushing touchdowns (ten). Along with Verdell, the Ducks also have Travis Dye, Cyrus Habibi-Likio and recruit Sean Dollars to round out the running back stable for the Ducks.
On defense, the Ducks bring in former Boise State defensive coordinator Alex Avalos to run the defense. Avalos is instilling for Oregon an attacking, versatile style of defense with multiple formations. This will benefit the Ducks defenders with whom that are already very versatile such as Austin Faoliu, Gus Cumberland and top defensive recruit Kayvon Thibodeaux.
The Ducks return their top tackler in inside linebacker Troy Dye who tallied up 115 tackles for the Ducks in 2018. Joining Dye in the linebacker unit is Isaac Slade-Matautia who is coming off a shoulder injury that limited his play last season. Also in the linebacker unit for the Ducks are La’Marr Winston Jr., Bryson Young, and DJ Johnson.
In the secondary, the Ducks have a pair of experienced veterans in Thomas Graham Jr. and Deommodore Lenoir who will anchor the top two cornerback spots. Free Safety Jevon Holland also returns for the Ducks and his ball-hawking skills are a welcomed returned. In 2018, Holland led the team in interceptions with five and joining him in the other players joining him in the other safety and nickel spots respectively are Nick Pickett, Brady Breeze, and Verone McKinley III.
In their week two contest against Oregon, the Nevada Wolf Pack will need to bring their best game in order to defeat this Ducks team that could be a top ten team by the time these two team play in early September.
This Oregon team is loaded with experience playmakers highlighted by Justin Herbert, who in my opinion,is going to be an early favorite to win the Heisman. And a defense that is going to be an aggressive, attacking unit that is going to create havoc on opposing offenses.
Head coach Jay Norvell and the Wolf Pack will most definitely have their hands full when they take on the Ducks on September 7th.
