The Nevada Wolf Pack struggle on both ends of the ball, losing to the Kansas State Wildcats, 38-17
Nevada found themselves in an early hole, and trailed throughout the game, letting up an early two-play 75-yard touchdown drive that ended with a 68-yard touchdown pass from Will Howard to Daniel Imatorbhebhe. The Wolf Pack’s offense didn’t help the situation by starting the game with two straight drives ending in punts.
It took a 55-yard bomb from Carson Strong to Romeo Doubs to finally open things up for the Wolf Pack. Devonte Lee barrelled the ball into the endzone for a one-yard touchdown. Nevada tied things up 7-7 at the start of the second quarter.
A slow, monotonous 75-yard drive by Kansans state ended in a 22-yard touchdown run by Joe Ervin. The Wildcats led the Wolf Pack 14-7 with 12 minutes left in the first half.
Kansas State would end the game with an absolute monster game on the ground finishing with 225 yards and four touchdowns. Strong let up the first turnover in the game throwing his second interception of the season with seven minutes left in the first half. The Wildcats got one more field goal before going into the lockerroom for halftime. Kansas State leads 17-7 at the break.
It was a tale of two halves yet again for Nevada.A trick reverse pass play for the Wolf Pack got the ball down to Kansas State’s 29 yard line and settled for a 46 yard field goal by Brandon talton.
Wildcats lead 17-10 with 10:35 left in the third quarter. Nevada then held Kansas State to a three and out and capitolized on good opening field position. Strong hooked up with Elijah Cooks for a 14-yard touchdown pass tying the game 17-17 at the end of the third quarter.
Kansas State started the fourth quarter with a bang scoring on the first play. Duece Vaughn punched it in for an 11-yard touchdown run. Wildcats up 24-17 with 14:54 in the fourth quarter. Strong and company marched down the field only to fall short going for it on fourth and four with 12 minutes left, only to come one yard short.
The game was virtually over after this. Following the failed fourth down attempt by Nevada, Kansas State marched down the field, scoring with 6:12 in the game. A two-yard rush put the Wildcats up 31-17. Howard had a one-yard QB sneak to close the book on the game. Kansas State sent Nevada back Reno, handing the Wolf Pack their first loss on the season. The Wildcats finished on top in this contest 38-17.
Nevada (2-1) now has a week off to rest before going to Boise, Idaho to face the Boise State Broncos, October 2nd in what could be a preview of the Mountain West Championship Game.
