Wolf Pack Smother Wyoming To Win Their Tenth Straight Game
Unlike the Nevada Wolf Pack’s last game against the Wyoming Cowboys back in 2018, a game that went into double overtime and saw the Wolf Pack lose, this meeting between the two schools on Saturday night in Laramire,Wyoming wasn’t even close.
The Wolf Pack used a strong defensive performance and dominating play in the paint to dunk on the Wyoming Cowboys 82-49. With the win tonight, the Wolf Pack extends their winning streak to ten and adds some cushion to their lead in the Mountain West conference standings.
The Wolf Pack’s defense was stellar tonight as they limited the Cowboys to just 30 percent shooting from the field and 25 percent shooting (6 for 24) from the three point line. On offense, the Wolf Pack displayed a commanding play in the paint whether it be Jordan Caroline using his power to make layups or Trey Porter’s thunderous dunks.
Also on offense, the Wolf Pack shot the ball well from three as they shot 39 percent from the three point line. Highlighted by Wolf Pack guard Jazz Johnson coming off the bench and going 4-5 from the three point line. It was another stellar performance on both sides of the ball for Nevada this evening in Laramire.
Four of the five Wolf Pack starters scored in double figures tonight and the leading scorer for Nevada was Trey Porter. Porter scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds tonight as he controlled the paint against the Cowboys. Joining Porter in dominating the Cowboys frontcourt was Jordan Caroline, Caroline chipped in with 13 points (6-12 FG) and four rebounds for Nevada tonight. Caleb Martin and Tre’Shawn Thurman contributed with 13 points and 11 points, respectively.
For the Cowboys, only two players scored in double figures as the Wolf Pack defense stifled the Wyoming offense. Justin James led the Cowboys in scoring with 16 points on only 4-16 shooting. Joining James in the scoring department was Trevon Taylor who scored 13 points in for the Cowboys.
The Wolf Pack improve their records to 24-1 overall and 10-1 in Mountain West conference play while the Cowboys drop to 6-19 overall and 2-10 in Mountain West conference play. The Wolf Pack will continue on the road on Wednesday as they travel to San Diego to face off against the Aztecs on Wednesday night.
