Ranking the players of the year this week
Once again there were five teams that did not play this past week which led to a rare non-conference game with Colorado taking on San Diego State. One thing that was noticed doing this player of the year of the week is that some players have an edge by playing more games, so perhaps at the end to make things a bit fairer we will use total points and also a points per game status to even things out. 2020 is weird so we will be flexible.
On to the seven that made the list this week and there are a few first-timers who had a great week, and Hawaii had the most this week with three of the seven coming from the Warriors football program.
7. Calvin Turner, RB, Hawaii – 1 Point
Turner did it all in the upset win over Nevada this past weekend. He has been a boon to the running game and also chipping in on the passing game. His biggest play came in the return game with his 47-yard return put the Warriors in Wolf Pack territory and supercharged the final drive that helped Hawaii get the upset win.

5. Darius Muasau, LB, Hawaii – 2.5 Points
Muasau was a tackle machine in the win over Nevada with 14 in the win. He also got to Carson Strong with a sack in the biggest win in the very early start to the Todd Graham era.
5. Trey Smith, RB, Wyoming – 2.5 Points
Looks like Wyoming has more than one really good running back. Xazavian Valladay went down with an injury early on in their win over UNLV and in came Trey Smith and he looked as good as Vallady. By the time the game was over, Smith had 164 yards and a touchdown.

3. Chevan Cordeiro, QB, Hawaii – 4.5 Points
Cordeiro is a mainstay on this list and he was tied for third this week. He once again led Hawaii in rushing with 64 yards and a score on the ground. In the air he put up a solid 246 yards with another touchdown.

3. Cameron Thomas, DL, San Diego State – 4.5 Points
Defense was a focus on this list this week and the Aztec’s defensive lineman was wrecking havoc against Colorado this weekend. He also had 14 tackles in the game but he also go behind the line of scrimmage with three tackles for a loss and a sack. It was not enough for the win but it helped keep San Diego State in the game vs. the Buffs.
2. Chad Muma, LB, Wyoming – 6 Points
The top defender of the week saw Chad Muma blow up the UNLV backfield all night long. He had 10 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss and also had three sacks against the Rebels. This is one of the best defensive performances from any player all year long.
1. Andrew Peasley, QB, Utah State – 7 Points
In his first start, Peasley made plays on the ground and in the air, and the future looks bright for Utah State at its quarterback position. Against the Lobose, he threw for 239 yards, rushed for 118 and had four total touchdowns with three in the air and one with his legs.
