Ranking the players of the year this week
The player of the year award that we are tracking each week is including a lot of new players this week. For the first time, there is a special teams player in the mix with Boise State’s Avery Williams who had a pair of blocks while scoring for a touchdown and had a solid return game against Colorado State.
There are a pair of quarterbacks on this list and one is a familiar name with Nevada making a repeat performance and the other is Fresno State’s Jake Haener who eclipsed 400 yards. Aso, there is a defender in San Jose State’s Cade Hall who was a terror in the backfield.
Now, onto the rankings, also seven points awarded to first place all the way down to one point for seventh place.
7. Carson Strong, Nevada, QB – 1 point
Perhaps seeing Strong on this list is a bit boring but nothing should be boring about another performance of 336 yards and three touchdowns. That seems like a let down from his prior numbers but still amazing.

6. Cade Hall, San Jose State, DL – 2 points
Hall was a beast against UNLV by attacking the quarterback with the single-game sack leader in the conference this year with three and also had four tackles for a loss. Since this game was vs. UNLV, the easy joke is that Hall took up residency in the Las Vegas backfield (insert rimshot).
5. Greg Bell, San Diego State, RB – 3 points
Bell had two huge runs and put on the hip shake to evade Hawaii defenders on touchdown runs. The Aztec ground game is back to what it was from 2018 prior and Bell is leading the way. He ended up with 160 on the ground.

4. Romeo Doubs, Nevada, WR – 4 points
All Doubs does is catch touchdowns and made this one look very easy en route to another multi-touchdown game with three on just five catches.

3. Jalen Cropper, Fresno State, WR – 5 points
The freshman wide receiver had the first 200-plus receiving yard games from Fresno State since Devante Adams achieved that feat. Cropper ended up with 10 catches for 202 yards and three scores. That 20.2 yards per catch rate is just ridiculous.

2. Jake Haener, Fresno State, QB – 6 points
The offense is starting to take off for the Bulldogs and Jake Haener joined the party with his best game of the year. He eclipsed the 400-yard mark with 422 yards and four touchdowns.
1. Avery Williams, Boise State, DB – 7 points
Williams’ game against Colorado State is a performance that is very rare. Not only blocking two kicks is amazing but he also was able to recover his own block to score. Also, the times the Rams did kick the ball to him when back deep, Williams was able to turn the field in Boise State’s favor.
