Finally!

After winning their Week 9 games by a combined 72 points, the Utah State Aggies and Fresno State Bulldogs finally earned a measure of respect from members of the coaches poll, vaulting into the top 25 this morning.

Utah State’s 61-19 win against New Mexico enabled the Aggies to land at #20, while Fresno State’s 50-20 win against Hawaii pushed them to #23. Two other Mountain West teams also received votes, as well: San Diego State earned 16 points, good enough to land at #40, despite a close loss at Nevada, while Boise State’s hotly contested win at Air Force earned two points, sneaking onto the back end at #49.

Both teams in the top 25, however, are looking up at two different teams from the American. UCF moved up to #9 during its bye week, while Houston leapfrogged to #17 with a big win against previously undefeated South Florida.

Additionally, the coaches poll somehow found room for two Power 5 teams with three losses each in the top 25, as well. Mississippi State, at #21, leapfrogged the Bulldogs after a 28-13 win against Texas A&M, while a puzzling 12-10 loss against Cal dropped Washington to #19, one spot ahead of the Aggies. Your guess as to why this is the case is as good as mine.
