Who will be SJSU’s new OC?
In a surprise move, San Jose State lost its offensive coordinator Andrew Sowder who is expected to take the same position at Kent State, and first reported by Sports Illustrated.
Sowder made the announcement official on his Twitter account on Saturday morning.

This move by Sowder reunites him with new Golden Flash head coach Sean Lewis. The two were on the same staff at Bowling Green and also Eastern Illinois.
Sowder spent just one year at San Jose State and led an offense that was very young and quarterback issues were just a few of the issues that plagued the team.
When hired as the San Jose State offensive coordinator last year, Sowder was 28 and one of the youngest ever at his position. He worked under Dino Babers and worked at the University of Texas under Charlie Strong.
This move seems to getting back to familiarity than taking a better job. This is a lateral move at best by going from San Jose State to Kent State. The MAC is a step down compared to the Mountain West plus Sowder is very likely taking a pay cut.
At San Jose State he earned $200,004 per year according to the USA TODAY assistant coach salary data base. While Kent State’s former offensive coordinator Don Treadwell was making $146,676 this past year. That just reaffirms this move was more about fit than pay.
There is no word if there will be a promotion from with or if head coach Brent Brennan will make an outside hire.
