This year will be different than last year?

Former WAC and Mountain West foes San Diego State and BYU kickoff to end their seasons. Last year, this one was a low scoring affair that saw the Aztecs win 13-3. If the Aztecs were to win Saturday night’s game, it would be the first time ever that they would own consecutive victories over BYU.

This year probably will be different since the BYU offense led by quarterback Zach Wilson is much better than last year, however, this Cougar offense will not have seen a defense as good as the Aztecs. Coastal Carolina had a good defensive rush and some future NFL talent but San Diego State is better overall on defense.

One big question for San Diego State is how will quarterback Jordan Brookshire who is getting the start once again as Lucas Johnson is out with a hamstring injury.

He was 14-for-24 passing for 130 yards and one touchdown in last week’s 29-17 win over Colorado State but he needs to be a whole lot better against a good BYU defense. To help Brookshire and also the offense in general needs to find a running game which typically is a calling card for the Aztecs.

Greg Bell has been bothered by an ankle injury and reinjured it last week against Colorado State as had only a single carry. His status for this game is in question and to beat BYU they need any of the backs to step up and they can not have Brookshire lead the team in rushing.

Controlling the clock with the ground game and getting pressure and into the backfield of BYU by its defense is how the Aztecs can get the upset.
