Will there be a father-son champion?
[lawrence-related id=3616]
Former Wyoming Cowboy forward Larry Nance, Jr. is competing in his first-ever NBA Dunk Contest this Saturday night. It will be at his former NBA home, the Staples Center, as Nance was recently traded from the Lakers to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Every Wyoming, college hoops and Mountain West fans know of is throw downs in Laramie, and they carried over into the league. Nance is finally healthy to compete in this event.
Nance’s father, Larry, Sr., won the first ever dunk contest and won that event in 1984 and defeated the likes of Dr. J and Dominique Wilkins. If junior wins the contest then it will be the first-ever father-son duo to hold the crown.
The elder Larry did give his son some simple advice.
“Make the first one,” Nance Jr. said is the sage wisdom bestowed upon him. “Just make your dunk. I don’t want to be that guy that’s out there missing.”
Nance has his first and last dunk planned but part of the rules are to use a prop and that is one he is still working on. His father will be in attendance and it would be very cool if Larry Sr. were to be the prop for his son.
The other competitors are Pacers guard Victor Oladipo, Dallas Maverick Dennis Smith Jr., and Utah Jazz rookie Donovan Mitchell who is in as a replacement for Aaron Gordon.
Of course there are odds on this event:
Dennis Smith Jr. -105
Victor Oladipo +150
Larry Nance Jr. +225
Donovan Mitchell +350
