Can Rebels get its first win?
The final game of the year for both Hawaii and UNLV has some significance. Both teams have first-year head coaches but Marcus Arroyo is struggling a bit more than Todd Graham.
Arroyo is still searching for his first win of the year and it may not come. He has had quarterback injuries and inefficient play from that group. Also, the roster is young and there is not a ton of talent. There are some glimmers of hope with some of the young talent like Justin Rogers at quarterback or wide receivers like Tyleek Collins and Kyle Williams, and on defense they have a rising star in Jacoby Windmon at linebacker.
So, even if they go winless there are some positives to look forward to. As for this game, UNLV needs to get senior running back Charles Williams the ball a lot and see if he can go off for 120 or more yards. Getting him loose will help with the quarterback situation and likely keep the Rebels around since if they hold the ball then Hawaii can’t score.
As for the Warriors, they are going to do what they do is throw the ball a lot with Chevan Cordeiro and his many receivers. Hawaii should have little issue getting the ball to Calvin Turner, Jared Smart, and Rico Bussey.
UNLV’s passing defense has just one interception and they are second in the league in yards allowed per pass at 8.5. Their total yardage is middle of the pack and that is because teams don’t need to throw after getting a big lead.
With Hawaii’s running game not all that great it could mean that the Warriors will just throw a lot more and will attack this UNLV secondary.
