Rams Terrible First Half Cost Them Chance To Win First Mountain West Game
While Colorado State is only half way through their season, they would be hard pressed to play any worse than they did in the first half at Fresno State. The Rams dug themselves into a double-digit hole that they were unable to recover from as they fell to the Fresno State Bulldogs 78-67 on Saturday night for their fifth consecutive loss.
The first half was, in a word, terrible. They went on two different scoring droughts that totalled around nine minutes which out Colorado State (down 36-22 at the half. The Rams went 0-12 from three-point range (3-19 for the game) and only three Rams players registered points in the half. J.D. Paige was only able to get on the scoreboard after making a pair of free throws with under 30 seconds left in the half. Other that that it was all redshirt junior guard Anthony Masinton-Bonner who finished the night with a career high 26 points and redshirt junior center Nico Carvacho who added 23.

The second half provided some hope as Colorado State as they scratched and clawed their way back into the game. They were able to cut the lead to eight late in the game but the hole dug in the first half was too much to overcome as the Bulldogs made some late free throws to seal the win. Fresno State went 12-33 from behind the arc and were lead by senior guard Deshon Taylor 21 who finished the night with 21 points. Senior forward Sam Bittner and junior guard Nate Grimes both dropped in 17 points apiece.
Colorado State looks for the first conference win when they return to Moby Arena on Tuesday to take on Air Force. Tip-off is set for 7pm and can be seen on AT&T Sportsnet.
