Hawaii is taking advantage of playing a week early

Mountain West football league play could start in late August between Colorado State and Hawaii. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser is reporting that the Warriors and Rams are using Hawaii’s exemption by playing a Week 0 game which was implemented in 2016.

Hawaii was originally scheduled to play Navy at home to open the season on Sept. 1 and Colorado State is slated to open the season in Denver against rival Colorado.

The Warriors wanted to move a game to Aug. 25 which would allow the team to have a break in its schedule and not play 13 games in as many weeks. Last year, Colorado State move its game against Oregon State to allow for a break in their schedule.

This would be the first time in Mountian West history that a season-opener would be a conference game.

The Mountain West is expected to release its full schedule in March.
