The latest chapter in the Mountain West’s highest-stakes rivalry is set to unfold on Friday night, when the Fresno State Bulldogs travel to the blue turf to face the Boise State Broncos.

The Battle for the Milk Can is here, but every Fresno State fan knows that it’s a battle for so much more. It’s a struggle for salvation so often denied, a two-decade war defined by clenched hands, hung heads, and bitter silence. The Bulldogs have not won in Boise since 1984, three conferences and a generation ago, though the results in recent years have become increasingly, agonizingly close.

This year’s Fresno State team has a chance to be the best that the San Joaquin Valley has ever seen, but this year’s Boise State, even at less than 100%, remains as dangerous as ever. Ranked or unranked, though, home or away, throw everything out. Friday night will be more than simple business for the Red Wave.

Here’s what Fresno State can do to beat Boise State.
