The Broncos suffer a brutal loss.
Wow is the way I would like to begin this piece about the Boise State Broncos. In a game that Boise was significant favorites in, they end up falling to Fresno State by a score of 67-64. The Broncos trailed by 12 late in the first half, but cut it to eight at the horn.
Boise was up nine points with only five minutes left, but Fresno stormed back to play spoiler, winning it on an Isaiah Hill three. The Broncos had a shot on the final possession but missed on an Emmanuel Akot three.

Unfortunate blow for the Broncos. It’s a horrible loss that’ll be a Quadrant Four loss, likely dropping the Broncos from in the tournament, to having their season on life support. It’s not a full death blow, but they’ll have to rely on other teams on the bubble to drop games. Xavier already helped with that by losing to Georgetown earlier, but other teams like Duke, Seton Hall have to start dropping some games.
I wouldn’t be surprised if most bracketologists had Boise in their next bracket being one of the final four teams to make the field in a play-in game. The most important thing to remember though is that this isn’t a death-blow, there’s still a solid chance to make the dance, just more narrow.
The only guaranteed scenario of getting in now is winning the conference tournament, which is totally possible. A loss in the first round of the tourney, where Boise likely gets Nevada, should they lose that one that’ll likely be the final straw for the Broncos.
If the Broncos can win that conference tourney, Derrick Alston Jr will have to perform better. Only 4/16 earning him 12 points today in the loss. That’s not the sole reason for the loss, but having your star performing at a high-level never hurts. I’d imagine Alston plays motivated in next weeks conference tournament. Nothing left behind. It’s his final ride for the Broncos.
It should be a fun week in Vegas.
