The defending Mountain West champions have their QB1.
In an announcement that wasn’t altogether surprising, Fresno State football head coach Jeff Tedford named senior Jorge Reyna the starting quarterback after a strong spring ball performance.
“He has command of the offense,” Tedford said, “He has been here going into his third season. He has played his role well in the past and has earned the right to be the starting quarterback.”
Reyna, a three-star recruit from West Los Angeles College in Tedford’s first recruiting class, played sparingly behind Marcus McMaryion in 2018 but flashed a fair bit of upside when he did see the field. He completed 8 of 12 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown while adding 8.33 yards per carry (after adjusting for sacks) on nine rushing attempts, suggesting that the new Bulldogs QB1 has the tools to keep the Fresno State offense balanced.
He came into the spring with the inside track, as neither Steven Comstock or Ben Woolridge, both redshirt freshmen, had any in-game experience and Hunter Raquet, who had also redshirted last season, elected to transfer last month.
