Malachi Flynn pulled a double shift on Thursday and finished the day 2-0.
The former San Diego State Aztec helped the G League’s Raptors 905 get a 117-92 victory over the Salt Lake City Stars with 16 points and five assists in the morning. Later that day, Flynn was recalled by the Toronto Raptors for their game against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Flynn, who had just logged 33 minutes on the court, was asked to fly from Florida to Wisconsin to fill in for an injured Kyle Lowry (left thumb). He cut it close, but he made it to Fiserv Forum before the 7:30pm ET game.
“He’s played good, especially the last few games,” said Toronto head coach Nick Nurse before the Bucks game. “I think he’s made some really good progress… he’s got some good rhythm right now. Let’s see if he can keep it going.”
The 22-year-old was selected by Toronto as the No. 29 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Before that, he was a standout in the Mountain West conference and one of the most decorated players in the SDSU program. Flynn helped the Aztecs get a 30-2 record during the 2019-20 season starting in all 32 games and averaging 17.6 points and 5.1 assists.

Before Thursday, the 6’1” guard had appeared in 13 NBA games, averaging 8.1 minutes and 2.2 points. His G League stats are significantly better, averaging 20.8 points, 5.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game. Flynn admitted basketball as a professional is different from how it was in college, but he is excited to keep learning.
“It’s a lot faster, it’s just what the game is. The shot clock is quicker so shots are going up faster. Guys are more athletic. It’s just a lot more up and down,” Flynn said last week. “Just continuing to adjust to that, I think it’s been fun.”
Toronto (14-15) took a 110-96 win against Milwaukee (16-13) on Thursday night. Flynn did check-in, and although he was only on the floor for less than five minutes, the former Aztec can brag about two wins in one day.
