Seminoles still thinking about the Broncos.
Boise State’s victory over Florida State is still on the mind of Seminoles head coach Willie Taggart. The second-year coach held his weekly radio show.
“I think after going through last weekend and seeing our guys going down and cramping, one thing we talked about with our medical staff is our guys got to hydrate,” Taggart said, via the Tallahassee Democrat.
“That can’t be on Friday, that can’t be on Thursday, they need to start hydrating early in the week and take care of their bodies. We can’t leave it up to our players just to do it. We’ve got to force them to hydrate and take care of themselves.
“I don’t know if we did a good job of that last weekend. One of those situations where you live and learn, and we’ll make sure that we help our guys when it comes to that.”
Wow!
Taggart dropping blame on the medical staff and his players for not hydrating. This is the team that trains in the hot, sticky, humid, sunny head of Florida and they were not properly getting their fluids in?
Compare that to Boise State who practices in an arid environment with little no humidity and not as hot. Plus, the Broncos traveled across the country for this game. Boise State did more to prep than the Seminoles who have all the built-in advantages to living in the Florida climate.
The Broncos went to its indoor practice facility and boosted the heat with sprinkles to attempt to replicate humidity.
The more logical answer comes from Seminoles center Baveon Johnson who addressed the media after Tuesday’s practice said the team was not in the best of shape and their conditioning was lacking.
It should be noted that during Taggart’s one year at Oregon his players suffered from rhabdomyolysis which is a breakdown of muscle tissue that releases a damaging protein into the blood. That happened after extremely difficult workouts in January of 2017 which were led by Irele Oderinde and he is the current strength coach for the Seminoles.
A pair of those players sued and cited lack of water during the workouts.
