The NFL mini-camps are well underway and with many NFL drafted players leaving their college teams, the college football betting lines for the favorites to win the national championship have changed drastically. To help you navigate the ever-changing nature of the betting odds, here’s a run down of some of the favorites worthy of your attention.
Alabama +350
Alabama saw 10 of their players taken in the NFL draft with six of them going in the first round. However despite the amount of talent that the Crimson Tide have lost, many still have them as firm favorites. Quarterback Bryce Young is expected to add a different dimension to Bama’s offense as Mac Jones was not as mobile. With players like Cameron Latu, Brian Robinson Jr, and John Metchie III, Alabama still have enough talent to get to the title game.
Clemson +350
Losing a ridiculously talented pair in Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne, Clemson will still pack a punch, especially defensively. Led by Brian Bresee and Myles Murphy, Clemson will be just fine on the defensive side of the ball. D.J. Uiagalelei will be the man front and center with Lawrence’s departure. He will still have several serious weapons to throw to in Justyn Ross, Ajou Ajou and Joseph Ngata all returning, Clemson can still be extremely explosive. The rest of the ACC has improved, but can the Tigers win in a shootout? Don’t bet against them.
Ohio State +400
The biggest question surrounding the Buckeyes is who will replace Justin Fields. CJ Stroud seems like the job is his to lose as he has played well. With receivers like Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave, Stroud will have some weapons at his disposal as they possess players who are on the same level as Alabama which is eyebrow-raising. The biggest problem could be Ohio’s ability to stop teams but with the addition of Jack Sawyer could that perhaps be the missing piece. If they get on a roll early on, then they will be hard to stop.
Oklahoma +800, Georgia +1000, and Texas A&M at +2000 are the other early favorites for the national title.
Those are the top three favorites for the national championship, now for some a little further back.
Notre Dame +4000
They made the Playoff last season but it was clear early on, the Fighting Irish were no match. With the loss to Alabama, it was feasible that Notre Dame was going to lose by two or three scores to any of the Playoff teams. Losing three starting offensive linesmen, a tight end, and a wideout, the Fighting Irish have been depleted. Add in Jeremiah Oqusu-Koramoah and two other defensive linesmen, it looks like an uphill battle for Notre Dame. Unlike other College powerhouses, Notre Dame is not a program that plugs positions when they lose talent. Losing so much talent will hamper their ambitions to get to the national title game.
Florida +2500
This is not the first time Florida has lost a decent amount of talent, yet still put out superb performances. With three big outs on offense in Kyle Pitts, Kadarius Toney, and Kyle Trask all going in the first two rounds of the draft there will be holes. However defensively many believe that they will improve. It is expected that Emory Jones looks like the right guy to replace Trask as he could make Florida a more unpredictable prospect this season.
