SouthPoint Casino’s games of the year

With the summer months now in full swing, there are some early college football odds that start trickling out, and some of the first ones that come out are via SouthPoint Casino.

Their initial game of the year lines are spread out over the whole season and include the usual suspects of important national games, plus they typically include the UNLV and Nevada game as well to appease some of the local fans of the Rebels.

The battle for the Fremont Cannon is the first game we will get to the odds, and it is not a shock that the Wolf Pack are a 23-point home favorite over the Rebels. The canon is going to very likely remain blue. The Rebels are still in the early stages of second-year head coach Marcus Arroyo and figuring out how he can build a program. A regular and full offseason will help the Rebels but they still have to figure out a quarterback and become more competitive. Plus, this Nevada team is going to be one of their best in years.

The Wolf Pack are on the list another time as they are a six-point road underdog to Boise State. This line partially has to do with how people bet games. A line is not 100% saying that Boise State is six points better than Nevada, but it is a line that will get people to bet on either side of this game. The point is to make a line enticing to put a few bucks on. The final line more than likely will be a couple of points lower and it should be one of the best games in the Mountain West.

The Broncos do need to figure out its quarterback situation between Jack Sears and Hank Bachmeier. However, they have a solid ground game with George Holani and a defense that should be in the top three in the Mountain West.

The only non-conference games involve Boise State and both of these games have the Broncos as underdogs. The first is the opener at Central Florida where the line seems a bit outrageous with the Golden Knights a 10-point favorite. Boise State is rarely an underdog and even more rare is to have them be down by double-digits.

This likely goes back to a new coaching staff and the stature of UCF playing at home and being in contention for an AAC title. This line will definitely be single-digits leading up to the opener.

The other Broncos game is against Oklahoma State and is on the blue but the Cowboys are a four-point road favorite. They did end the season 8-3 and ranked 20th in the AP poll, and they are 55th in returning production with 72% back.

A Big 12 team coming to Boise will be an interesting game and never count out the Broncos at home, plus the Cowboys lost a key piece on offense in running back Chuba Hubbard who was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the 2021 NFL Draft. There will be a familiar name in the backfield with former Utah State running back Jaylen Warren now enrolled down in Stillwater. The four-point line indicates a close game and that should be expected.
