Niko Medved Is Set To Become Colorado State Head Coach

Medved, a former Colorado State assistant, is expected to replace Larry Eustachy
Drake head coach Niko Medved is expected to be hired to the same position at Colorado State, Barstool Sports’ Bobby Reagen reported Thursday.
Medved spent this past season at Drake University after four years with Furman University. He was named the 2017 Southern Conference coach of the year. Medved is 79-88 combined as a head coach in D-I, hoisting the SoCon regular season trophy in 2017.
Medved replaces troubled former head coach Larry Eustachy. He spent six seasons in Fort Collins before resigning after a university “climate assessment” into Eustachy’s conduct as head coach. Eustachy had reportedly verbally abused and harassed players while head coach.
Assistant coach Jase Herl took over interim head coaching duties for the final six games of the season. Herl was reportedly not offered an interview for the full-time head coaching job, and has since explored opportunities at other universities.
Medved has previous ties with Colorado State University. He was a CSU assistant coach from 2007 to 2013 before picking up his first D-I head coaching job at Furman. His final year in Fort Collins was spent alongside Eustachy.
The hiring comes at a difficult time for the Colorado State program. Former Oral Roberts wing and CSU signee Kris Martin was released from his letter of intent on Wednesday. Sophomore forward Nico Carvacho, who led the Mountain West in rebounding this past season, has been granted permission to contact other schools. Both players were expected to start for the 2018-19 team.
Colorado State went 11-21 last season, finishing 10th in the Mountain West with a 4-14 league record.
