Rocky Mountain Showdown Has Handshake Agreement To Return
CU & CSU athletic directors have a handshake agreement to play each other in 2023 & 2024.

Rocky Mountain Showdown to return for two years.
According to Brian Howell, of Buffzone.com, the Colorado State Rams & Colorado Buffaloes have a handshake agreement in place to play each other in 2023 & 2024. 2023 would be in Boulder, while 2024 would be in Fort Collins. This after the Rocky Mountain Showdown takes a two-year hiatus in 2021 & 2022.
The current contract for the Rocky Mountain Showdown, which was signed in 2009, is set to expire in 2020 with that year’s game to be played in Fort Collins. The 2018 & 2019 versions of the Rocky Mountain Showdown will still be held at Mile High Stadium.
CSU Athletic Director Joe Parker told the Denver Post last year in regards to the handshake agreement, “It’s a discussion that we’ve both said makes sense for us. We’re waiting for them to sign and return it.”

The Rocky Mountain Showdown is unlikely to return on an annual basis, but there is a likelihood that the schools go to a two-year on, two-year off rotation. The next likely years for the Rocky Mountain Showdown look to be 2027 & 2028.
Colorado State has been able to fill their schedule with Power 5 teams for future seasons. The Rams have future home and home matchups with Vanderbilt (x2), Washington State, Texas Tech, and Arizona. They also have an away game at Iowa scheduled for 2021.
The Rams have scheduled three Power 5 schools in 2018 (CU, Arkansas, @Florida) & 2020 (CU, @Oregon State, @Vanderbilt). They have two P5 opponents on the schedule for 2019 (CU, @Arkansas).
