K.J. Carta-Samuels could have competition for the starting QB position.
While speaking at the Sports Corp’s annual College Football Kickoff Luncheon, Colorado State head coach Mike Bobo said Collin Hill will be available at some point this fall, according to Kelly Lyell of the Fort Collins Coloradoan. Coach Bobo also didn’t rule out Hill being ready for the Rams season opener against Hawaii on August 25th.
Hill suffered his second ACL tear while playing basketball just before spring football. The injury occurred during the first week of March, and a return to action vs. Hawaii would mean approximately a six recovery time. Typically, an ACL tear takes nearly a year to fully recover.
“He’s ahead of schedule with everything,” Bobo told Lyell. “… We’re not ruling out Game 1, but he’ll definitely be ready at some point this season. I talked to the trainer this morning. I can’t remember if he said it was his hamstring or quad(riceps), one of them’s not quite 100 percent. But I said, ‘Are we full go to aggressively pick up treatment.’ He said, ‘Yes.’”
Previous estimates of Hill’s recovery time were said to be 6-9 months. This according to Dr. Rocci Trumper, the Fort Collins surgeon who performed the surgery on Hill’s knee in mid-March. A four-month check up for Hill showed he was making continued progress on his rehabilitation.

Coach Bobo said Hill will participate in fall camp starting July 27th and that there was no talk of holding him out for the 2018 season in the hopes of obtaining a medical redshirt.
Collin Hill was thrust into the starting job in the 2016 season as a true freshman due to inadequate play of Nick Stevens and Faton Bauta. Hill played in five games during the 2016 season, starting three, and completed 75 of 129 passes for 1,069 yards and eight touchdowns with two interceptions before he tore his ACL against Utah State.
