Boise State Fought Without Chandler Hutchison In The Second Half, But The Broncos Were Unable To Complete The Comeback

Chandler Hutchison played just eight minutes after an ugly fall
Boise State made a valiant effort without its star player, but a late second half comeback bid fell short as Iowa State captured the Puerto Rico Tip-Off At Myrtle Beach title with a 75-64 win.
The Broncos trailed by as much as 24 in the second half, but a barrage of perimeter shooting success brought BSU within four as the score was 66-62 with 1:38 remaining.
Iowa State guard Donovan Jackson, who set the Puerto Rico Tip-Off record for most points in a tournament, had four free throws and a layup in the final 41 seconds to ice the game for the Cyclones.
Christian Sengfelder led the Broncos with 20 points. He and Lexus Williams were both 4-9 from three-point range. Alex Hobbs (10 points) was the third BSU player to finish in double figures.
The bigger story is the health of Chandler Hutchison. Boise State’s star player and the preseason Mountain West Wire player of the year had an awkward fall about eight minutes into the game, knocking his head against the floor. He left the game, went to the locker room, and later returned to the Boise State bench in sweatpants and a hoodie.
The current status of Hutchison is unknown, though he did not return the remainder of the game. Luckily for the Broncos, BSU isn’t slated to play again until a Saturday night home matchup against Loyola Marymount.
Boise State drops its first game of the season and is now 4-1 on the year. More importantly for Leon Rice’s team, though, is how soon Hutchison can return to action.
