Colorado State ended Colorado’s undefeated start to the season
Prentiss Nixon and J.D. Paige had 16 points apiece as Colorado State held off a testy Colorado squad 72-63 Saturday morning in Fort Collins.
The Rams led by as many as 17 points with less than eight minutes remaining, but Colorado climbed back into it and had a chance to cut it to a one-possession game in the final minute. Colorado State failed to make a field goal in the final 7:40 of regulation.
Colorado entered the game with a hot 6-0 start to the season, but the Rams offense had enough in the tank to end CU’s undefeated mark. CSU shot 41% from the field and 7-18 from deep, but had trouble closing out the game in the final minute with a handful of missed free throws.
McKinley Wright led the Buffaloes with 19 points, including a stretch where he had 11 consecutive points for Colorado. Dominique Collier (10 points) was the only other Colorado player in double figures.
Colorado State is back on the road with two tough matchups next. The Rams take on Arkansas on Tuesday and Oregon on Friday.
