Johnson will get a chance to shine.
Colorado State’s best wide receiver is not going to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, but the No. 2 wideout is packing his bag to the annual event.
Preston Williams declared early for the NFL Draft and in 2018 he was the Rams top receiver in which he caught 96 passes for 1,345 yards and 14 touchdowns, plus he earned All-American consideration Despite with those credentials he is being held out due to an arrest back in September of 2017, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
The issue with Williams was that he was involved in a domestic dispute with his girlfriend at the time and the former Rams wide receiver allegedly shoved her and was charged with harassment which is a misdemeanor.
In addition to those charges, he was slapped with a protection order as he called the woman about 200 times. He pled guilty to a deferred sentence.
Those issues were enough for the NFL to not extend an invite. Williams is not the only player who is expected to be drafted and not go to the combine.
The other is Mississippi State defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons who was arrested twice in a two-year period for altercations with a female.
The Colorado State wide receiver that is going to the combine is Olabisi Johnson. He caught 54 receptions for 796 yards plus had four touchdowns. He also was involved in the special teams returning punts.
The NFL Combine runs from Feb. 26 through March 4 and the wide receiver part of the event is from Feb. 28 through March 2.
