Carvacho was a breakout star in a rough Colorado State season
Colorado State big man Nico Carvacho has requested permission to speak with other schools, Denver Post’s Matt Stephens reported Thursday.
Carvacho, who started every game for the Rams this season, averaged 9.2 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, receiving recognition in the conference’s regular season awards. Carvacho was the Mountain West leader in rebounds this season.
Carvacho’s decision to speak with other universities, which has yet to be granted, is likely due to current head coaching turnover at Colorado State. Troubled former head coach Larry Eustachy resigned last month after athletic director Joe Parker chose to run a “climate assessment” regarding Eustachy’s conduct as head coach. Jase Herl finished out the season as the Rams’ interim head coach.
Last summer, after former San Jose State head coach Dave Wojcik chose to resign for personal reasons, star forward Brandon Clarke was granted permission by the university to speak with other schools. Clarke ultimately decided to transfer to Gonzaga, sitting out this past season.
Carvacho, a redshirt sophomore, has two seasons of college eligibility remaining. According to Stephens, he is the first Colorado State player this offseason to show public interest in transferring. “More are expected,” Stephens said.
