Wyoming Defeats Colorado State In 109th Border War
The 109th Border War was a throwback football game. On a cold night in Laramie, Wyoming that saw just about every weather condition imaginable, the Wyoming Cowboys pulled out a 16-13 win to retain the Bronze Boot. The loss puts Colorado State’s Mountain West title hopes in jeopardy as their inability to stop the run came back to haunt them for the second week in a row.
The weather is always going to be a concern during any Mountain West football game in November and Saturday night was no different. The rain started almost on cue at kickoff and when the teams came out for the second half, the rain had turned to driving snow.
The conditions favored Colorado State and their rushing attack led by Dalyn Dawkins. Dawkins finished with 29 carries for 154 yards to go over the century mark for the fifth time in his last six game. Overall the Rams rushed for 235 yards on 55 attempts on their way to over 37 minutes of possession.

After holding Wyoming to a field goal to cut Colorado State’s lead to 10-9 early in the third quarter, Colorado State put together a 14 play – 44 yard drive that ate nine minutes off the clock. It ended in zero points though after the hold was fumbled on the field goal attempt in the snowy conditions.
After a fourth quarter fumble by Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen that Colorado State failed to turn into points, the Cowboys put together a seven play – 69 yard drive capped off by a three yard touchdown run by running back Kellen Overstreet to put Wyoming up for good.
All but 18 of those yards were on the ground with Allen running the ball multiple times over the right side on a quarterback power run. Despite beating Wyoming statistically on the ground, Colorado State was unable to stop the run when it mattered most.

“Wyoming made more plays than us there at the end of the game,” said a disappointed Mike Bobo in his post game radio interview. “Controlled the clock, thought we ran the ball good, (a)bout impossible to throw the ball…just gotta give them (Wyoming) credit.”
Colorado State has little time to lick their wounds as they welcome a red hot Boise State team to Ft. Collins next Saturday night. Boise State is riding a five game winning streak and it’s a must win game for Rams if they want any chance of getting a piece of the Mountain division title. Kickoff is set for 8:30pm.
