The Colorado State Rams head to Durham, North Carolina to face the fourth-ranked Duke Blue Devils. This will be the third all time meeting between these two teams with both previous matchups coming this century.

The Rams are coming off an okay performance against the Denver Pioneers where they got four freshman some playing time to prepare for the upcoming challenges of the season.

Isaiah Stevens was a surprise starter for the Rams as CSU has a number of points guards with more NCAA experience. The freshman from Allen, Texas held his own but seemed tentative at times. The other freshman on the court for the Rams were Dischon Thomas, David Roddy, and John Tonje.

Nico Carvacho picked up where he left off last season with another double-double to go along with quietly becoming the Mountain West’s all time leading rebounder. Adam Thistlewood also came close to a double-double of his own.

Duke is coming off a close 68-66 victory over the Kansas Jayhawks. Tre Jones led the way for the Blue Devils, finishing with 15 points, seven assists, six rebounds, and two steals. Cassius Stanley and Vernon Carey, Jr were the other standouts in the game for Duke.

The Blue Devils present a problem for the Rams as they are overall a taller and longer team. With the Rams running out two six-foot guards, the Blue Devils have the length to shut down the open passing lanes that may appear.

Duke’s height will also be a problem down low for the Rams. Duke has five players that are 6’9″ or taller, compared to only three for Colorado State. Nico Carvacho and Dischon Thomas will need to stay out of foul trouble to give the Rams a fighting chance near the rim.

If the Rams are to have any hope against Duke, they need to be mentally ready for the Cameron Crazies. They also need to be quick to forget mistakes. Duke will punish mistakes, but the Rams will need to get over them quickly and refocus.

The Rams won’t shock the world, but they will probably perform decently. Duke 84-65 CSU.
