Colorado State is coming off of a huge win over Fresno State last week and now they get to host a Boise State team that has a losing record overall but has played better in league play a 4-3 record.

“Really big (win),” senior J.D. Paige said on Saturday. “Fresno’s the second team in the conference. It just shows that we can play with anybody when we’re locked in and focused.”

The Rams will need Paige to get another quality conference win, but there could be a bigger matchup that will make or break this game for both Colorado State and Boise State.

The biggest matchup to watch will be the Broncos duo Zach Haney and David Wacker who will be teaming up to take on Niko Carvacho. Carvacho is one of the best players in the conference and is averaging a double-double with 15.4 points and a nation-leading 12.5 rebounds per game.

“He’s just an amazing, amazing player,” Boise State coach Leon Rice said after Monday’s practice. “The effort he puts into rebounding and the consistency he brings … with the best stats in the country rebounding the basketball.

“He’s got great hands and great feet,” Rice said. “But the most important thing … is the persistence and the continuous effort. There’s nobody in the country that puts more effort into doing that than what he does.”

If Boise State can find a way to limit Carvacho’s production that is a start on how they can win this game.

As for Colroado State, they need to stop the balanced scoring attack of the four Broncos that aveage double-digits per game, and in particular Justinian Jessup who not only is the Broncos leading score but is a shart-shooter from three-point range at 40 percent.

A win for Boise State will keep them in the conversation with Utah State and Fresno State as the No. 2 team, and a Colorado State win will get them further away from possibly playing in an opening round conference tournament game.
