Huge opportunity against Bevo
Colorado State announced its home opener for the 2024 season and it is a big one as they will be heading to Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas, to face the Texas Longhorns.
The game will take place on Aug. 31, 2024.
The Rams have been upping its non-conference games of late, and in the future. In addition to playing Colorado on an annual basis, the Rams have faced Arkansas, Florida, Alabama in the past, and have Vanderbilt, Texas Tech, Michigan, Arizona, and more Power Five teams scheduled for the future.
Outside of playing Alabama, going to face the Texas Longhorns is arguably the second biggest non-conference game that the Rams will have played, possibly ever.
“I think it’s great for us any time you play a storied program like the University of Texas,” Colorado State head coach Mike Bobo said in a release. “I think it’s great for the university, our fan base and our players. It’s an area we recruit, so anytime we can play a team like that I’m excited. If we want to get where we want to go, we can’t shy away from playing those teams.”
This does do a lot for recruiting with the Colorado State program but a real incentive is getting paid $1.8 million to go down to Austin for a likely loss, but anything can happen. That amount is the second-most ever, Colorado State is getting $2 million to play at Michigan in 2022.
This will be the second all-time meeting between the two schools back in 1975 which saw the Longhorns win 46-0.
The only other game scheduled in 2024 is a Sept. 14 home game against rival Colorado.
