Confidence is not lacking for Matthews

The Colorado State season did not end as planned as the Rams fell to Marshall in the New Mexico Bowl, but running back Izzy Matthews has his sights on big goals next year for himself and the team itself.

This past year, Matthews was the backup to Dalyin Dawkins and was more of the short yardage and goal line back. He had 613 yards and eight touchdowns. Those eight scores were the same as Dawkins but 700 yards fewer.

As the starter it could be a reasonable expectation that Dawkins will get over 1,000 yards, but Marvin Kinsey could get in the way of Matthews attempting to win the Doak Walker award as those two likely will split time.

The other goals are very lofty such as being an All-American, being drafted or going to a New Year’s Six bowl game.

The Rams do lose offensive pieces like center Jake Bennett, quarterback Nick Stevens and wide receiver Michael Gallup. All three of those will be in the NFL next year, so a lot of offense needs to be replaced.
