Wyoming Takes Bronze Boot Back To Laramie
The 110th Border War was anything but memorable one for Colorado State. The Rams were again inconsistent on offense and were dominated in the second half as Wyoming defeated the Colorado State 34-21 to take the Bronze Boot back to Laramie for the third straight year.
“We talked about winning the turnover battle and we lost it 3-0. We talked about winning in the trenches, we got our butt whipped in the trenches,” stated a somber head coach Mike Bobo after the game. “Basically [they] shoved it down our throats.”
Colorado State’s offense had been inconsistent all season and in this game, a pivotal one if they want to go to a bowl game was acting like it had all season except this time with turnovers. The Rams offense couldn’t run the ball, turned it over three times and didn’t wake up until it was forced to pass nearly every play after being down 24-0 in the third quarter.
A first-half defensive struggle was replaced by turnovers converted into touchdowns in the third quarter. Colorado State quarterback Collin Hill fumbled the ball after being hit from the blind side dropping back for a pass and three plays later Wyoming freshman quarterback Sean Chambers ran the ball in from eight yards out for a touchdown.
The very next possession for Colorado State was an interception that turned into a Wyoming touchdown on the very next play courtesy of running back Nico Evans 48-yard scamper to put the Cowboys up 24-0 early in the third down.
Colorado State would respond as Hill led the Rams on an 11 play 78-yard drive capped off by a 15-yard Marvin Kinsey touchdown run.
But Wyoming would rip away any momentum the Rams might have had when they put together a nine play, 47-yard drive sealed off with a field goal against an exhausted Colorado State defense.
The Rams showed a little bit of life but Wyoming continued to pound the ball forcing the Rams to overly commit to defending the run. When that happened Wyoming called a brilliant play-action pass for a 43-yard touchdown pass from Chambers to Tyree Mayfield to put the game away for good and send the few die-hard Rams fans toward the exits.

Colorado State would add a late touchdown to keep things respectable but Hill’s second interception sealed the Rams fate. The fact is that Wyoming was more physical than Colorado State at the point of attack and dropped the Rams to 3-5, 2-2 in the Mountain West.
Colorado State’s defense didn’t play poorly but they couldn’t get any help from the offense until the game was out of reach. Offensively Hill finished 34/54 for 333-yards and two interceptions. The running game was again non-existent despite Kinsey’s two touchdown runs. The Rams finished with 20-yards on the ground on 20 carries.
Wyoming quarterback Sean Chambers had an impressive debut as Wyoming’s starting quarterback. He finished with 116-yards through the air with two touchdowns and 101-yards on the ground with another touchdown. Running back Nico Evans finished with 176-yards and one touchdown on the ground and one touchdown through the air.
Colorado State will go back to the drawing board yet again and won’t return to the field until Saturday November 10th when they travel to Nevada.
