The Rams wide receiver had a breakout campaign and was an easy choice by our staff as the Mountain West’s newcomer of the year.

What lies ahead for CSU’s breakout star?
– Offensive player of the year | Defensive player of the year
– Freshman of the year | Special teams player of the year
– Coordinator of the year
Many Colorado State fans may have thought that replacing the star power of someone like Michael Gallup was an impossible task. Though the overall season didn’t go quite as planned, the Rams did find another sensational athlete to continue their recent lineage of top-flight pass catchers.
Preston Williams took the field and became a nightmare for defensive backs from day one, an obvious choice by our staff as Mountain West football’s Newcomer of the Year.
The 6-foot-4, 240-pound junior from Lovejoy, Georgia, who had sat out the 2017 season as a transfer from Tennessee, announced himself with a nine-catch, 188-yard performance in Week 0 against Hawaii and never let up, finishing the year with 96 catches for 1,345 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Now that the Rams face an early off-season, Williams will have a decision to make. He’s received quite a bit of buzz about declaring for the NFL Draft, though the CSU faithful will certainly keep their fingers crossed that he chooses to help the Rams reload in 2019.
