Can things change for the Rams or will they remain the same?

The Colorado State Rams lost the final Rocky Mountain Showdown played at Mile High, 52-31 to the Colorado Buffaloes. The first half looked like the Rams would compete with the Buffs, but they fell apart in the second half.

There are four things that can be taken away from this game for the Rams.

Collin Hill Looks To Be Back

The redshirt junior quarterback from South Carolina made the first opening week start of his career and did pretty well after a full offseason. He went 31-47 for 347 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. He showed no ill effects of his two ACL tears as he moved around the pocket to keep plays alive and give the Rams a chance.

Alvis Whitted, the former Rams wide receiver coach, called Hill an NFL talent. And he proved it by making throws that put throws that put his receivers in a position to catch the ball. Yes, he made some overthrows, but his talent is there to lead the Rams.

Dante Wright Introduced Himself

The freshman from Navarre, Florida certainly put himself on the map with his performance against the Buffs. He finished the game with three carries for 59 yards to go along with four catches for 72 yards and two total scores.

Wright’s even gotten the attention of The Athletic ($). With his introduction the Rams offense, Wirght gives Mike Bobo another weapon to give Mountain West defensive coordinators nightmares about. Watch for his freshman season to be a big one.

This Team Looks Ready To Compete

Head coach Mike Bobo had to make three staff changes this offseason with the departures of Eric Lewis (Boston College), Alvis Whitted (Packers), and Ryan Davis (Maryland). The biggest change this offseason was when Mike Bobo chose Joey Guarascio to replace Ryan Davis as head strength and conditioning coach.

Guarascio brings a fire and intensity that has been missing from this team for a while. They look bigger, stronger, and faster. One thing looks to be missing is stamina, but that can be built with time. Coach Joey G has made a big impact on this team and looks to have this team ready for the future.

Run The Dang Ball, Bobo

The Rams were in this game until the end of the third quarter when the game looked to get out of hand. The Rams still had a shot, but went away from a game plan that was working. The Rams went to the air when down by 14 points and neglected the run game that was working in the first half.

Georgia fans’ favorite saying of Bobo, “Run the dang ball, Bobo,” definitely applies here. The Rams were getting pushing the Buffs defensive front back all night. They only made a couple of mistakes all night, one of which was a questionable call. Bobo needs to trust the Rams run game more.

Look for this Rams team to compete throughout this season. Nothing will come easy against this Rams team.
