2022 Win/Loss Predictions for Colorado State

Can the Rams get to a winning record?

@ Michigan (9/3) – Loss

This actually isn’t the first time the Rams and Wolverines have met. The first time was a 24-14 Michigan win back in 1994. Don’t count on it being so close this time around. The Rams first game under Jay Norvell comes against a top 5 team in the country and will go about as expected.

Middle Tennessee (9/10) – Win

This is a very intriguing matchup for Colorado State. Under long-tenured coach Rick Stockstill, the Blue Raiders have switched to an air raid offense under new Offensive Coordinator Mitch Stewart, a former FCS head coach. The air raid on air raid showdown will be a game to watch, but the Rams should hold out for the win.

@ Washington State (9/17) – Win

A game that could go either way. Jake Dickert takes over full time and brings in Incarnate Word head coach Eirc Morris to call plays. Cameron Ward follows Morris and figures to lead the Cougars this season after throwing for over 4,600 yards and 47 scores last season. The CSU DL vs Wazzu OL will be the key here after Wazzu gave up 31 sacks last year. CSU gets over .500 for the first time since 2017.

Sacramento State (9/24) – Win

Most games against FCS schools can be marked down as a win, as has been done here for the Rams. However, this one won’t be easy. Sacramento State is coming off an outright Big Sky title and a fourth seed in the FCS playoffs. The Rams won’t be taking them lightly after last years loss to South Dakota State and one can expect a closer victory for the Rams than they would like.

@ Nevada (10/7) – Win

Besides the Battle for the Freemont Cannon against UNLV, you can expect this game to be circled on the schedule for the Wolf Pack. It’s one thing to lose your coach to a bigger program. It’s a completely different feeling to lose your coach to a team within your conference. Head Coach Ken Wilson brought in some good transfers, but the Rams should win this one.

Utah State (10/15) – Win

Last year just didn’t happen for this matchup. We can just wipe it off the face of the Earth and start fresh. Another toss up game, this time against the defending MW Champions. The Rams have an actual special teams coach in place now, should the situation call for it. Rams get revenge on home turf.

Hawaii (10/22) – Win

This matchup won’t have the fireworks that some other games will for the Rams. When the head coaching position for Hawaii opened up this offseason, Jay Norvell convinced Timmy Chang to apply even though he had just joined Norvell in Fort Collins. But one can still expect a hard hitting game with the Rams coming out on top.

@ Boise State (10/29) – Loss

This one is an automatic loss for the Rams until they prove they prove otherwise. The way CSU has beaten New Mexico for the past 11 years is how Boise State has treated the Rams for the past 11 years. Norvell finally got over the hump last year at Nevada, lets see if he can do it at Colorado State.

@ San Jose State (11/5) – Win

The Spartans return a number of key pieces on both sides of the ball and bring in some transfers that could be difference makers. The Rams will have their hands full in this game, but it still feels like anything other than a CSU win will be a huge disappointment.

Wyoming (11/12) – Win

That School Up North. Most Rams fans want to forget about the Steve Addazio era, but there were two good things to take away from his tenure. First, that nickname. It stuck and reminded the players of the importance of the game. Second, he won against Wyoming. This game will be high on the list for players and expect a fight to the end.

@ Air Force (11/19) – Loss

The defense better be ready for this one. The knockdown, drag out fights Nevada and Air Force had over the past few seasons may be making their way to Fort Collins. The Rams have struggled against the triple option and it remains to be seen if new defensive coordinator Freddie Banks can come up with an answer for it.

New Mexico (11/25) – Win

Just keep this one marked down as a Rams win until New Mexico proves otherwise. Colorado State is currently on an 11 game winning streak in the series. New Mexico has struggled for the last number of years and those struggles are looking to turn a corner, but not just yet against the Rams.

Predicted 2022 CSU Final Record 9-3

Is this prediction crazy? Yeah, probably. The Rams could easily go 5-7 or 6-6 depending on how a few games go. But were having fun here and this record isn’t completely out of the realm of possibility if the Rams can step up to the plate and match the enthusiasm the fans have for the program at the moment.
