Rams enter the rankings
It finally happened.
After weeks and weeks of the Mountain West Conference being absent from the Associated Press Top 25 rankings, that streak has ended thanks to the Colorado State Rams.
The newest Top 25 was dropped on Monday morning, and the Rams landed at No. 23 after a pair of impressive wins against St. Mary’s and Mississippi State.
Here is the entire Top 25.
- Baylor
- Duke
- Purdue
- UCLA
- Gonzaga
- Alabama
- Kansas
- Arizona
- Villanova
- USC
- Iowa State
- Michigan State
- Auburn

- Texas Tech
There it is.
But, the bittersweet side is that there are no MWC teams in the Others Receiving Votes category.
Last week, we discussed that the Rams were right on the cusp, and now they land at No. 23 in the rankings. To start December, Colorado State defeated St. Mary’s by 16 points and then topped Mississippi State by three on the road in a hard-fought game.
The best part? The Rams don’t have another game until Saturday evening against Tulsa. After that, they face No. 6 Alabama on the road, and a victory over the Crimson Tide would be a massive one for the Rams before starting conference play.
As far as the rest of the conference is concerned, it isn’t looking terribly optimistic. Wyoming has just one loss on the year – a 29-point blemish against Arizona – but the Cowboys’ best win is against a 9-2 Grand Canyon team. Wyoming finishes off the non-conference slate against Stanford, so the next few weeks will be telling of how good this team really is.
The Fresno State Bulldogs are 8-2 with losses to Cal and to a surprising undefeated San Francisco squad. But, the Bulldogs victories have come against less than ideal opponents, with victories against Santa Clara, UC Irvine, USD, and Pepperdine to name a few.
The Mountain West has a lot of work to do as a whole, but for now, the Rams are doing their part and look like the best of the bunch through the first chunk of the campaign.
