The madness is beginning.

Up until this point, the Colorado State Rams were one of just three unbeaten teams remaining in college basketball – with USC and Baylor as the other two. Furthermore, the Rams were the only Mountain West team to be ranked in the Top 25.

How quickly things change. Suddenly, the Colorado State-SDSU game was set for Saturday, and the Aztecs rolled to a 79-49 victory at Viejas Arena, stunning the Rams.

When the newest Associated Press Top 25 came out, the Rams were nowhere to be found. Here is the new Top 25:

This Colorado State-SDSU game was circled on calendars for a long time. However, COVID-19 issues forced it into action sooner than expected.

In turn, the Aztecs start off Mountain West play with a massive victory and the Rams finally lose a game, and it wasn’t close.

The good news is that both programs received votes this week, so perhaps there is a path for multiple MWC programs to crack the Top 25. Now, the Rams face Utah State on Wednesday with the Aztecs heading to Laramie to face Wyoming.

Go to your calendars and circle – in pencil – February 4, the next time Colorado State and San Diego State are set to play each other. As we all know, things can change quickly.
