Dutcher led the Aztecs to the NCAA Tournament in March

San Diego State head coach Brian Dutcher has agreed to a contract extension through the 2022-23 season, per release.

Dutcher led the Aztecs to a 22-win regular season and NCAA Tournament appearance this past March. San Diego State captured the Mountain West Tournament championship and notched a No. 11 seed in the Big Dance. The tourney berth ended a two-year NCAA Tournament drought for the Aztecs.

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to be able to coach at San Diego State for the foreseeable future,” Dutcher said in a release.

San Diego Union Tribune’s Mark Zeigler broke down the financial details of Dutcher’s contract in an article Wednesday afternoon.

Dutcher succeeded longtime San Diego State head coach Steve Fisher following Fisher’s retirement in 2017. Dutcher has spent the past two decades within the SDSU program as an assistant before being promoted to head coach last year.

San Diego State returns key pieces in Devin Watson, Jalen McDaniels, Matt Mitchell and Jeremy Hemsley for the upcoming season. The Aztecs are expected to compete for another Mountain West title in 2018-19.
