Broncos escape to move to 10-1 on the year
Chandler Hutchison scored 27 points to lead Boise State as the Broncos escaped in a double overtime win against Grand Canyon, 85-80, Wednesday night.
Three other Broncos finished in double figures. Justin Jessup (18 points) had some huge baskets in both overtime periods, Christian Sengfelder (12 points) recorded key free throws, and Lexus Williams (12 points) tied the game in regulation with a huge three-pointer.
Boise State trailed 36-30 at halftime despite coming into the game as 9.5-point home favorites. The Antelopes carried the largest lead of the night, a 10-point advantage, with nine minutes left in the first period.
GCU had a 57-52 lead with over five minutes remaining, but converted just two field goals the rest of regulation as Boise State tied it up with a deep, off-balanced Lexus Williams three-pointer with just over three seconds remaining. Williams also hit the buzzer-beating half court shot at Oregon to win the game back on December 1 in Eugene.
Next up for Boise State is a road matchup at SMU (8-3). The Mustangs rank 26th in KenPom, and were defeated by the Broncos last November in Taco Bell Arena. It will be the final game in BSU’s non-conference slate.
