A crucial question answered.
The Boise State Broncos had the luxury to spend months deciding who would be under center when their 2021 college football begins against UCF on September 2. With 13 days to go, head coach Andy Avalos has announced his answer.
Incumbent starting quarterback Hank Bachmeier will start in Orlando and beyond, in news first broken by B.J. Rains of the Idaho Press. The junior from Murrieta, California played in five games last season and threw for 1,150 yards and six touchdowns against just two interceptions. He missed time after testing positive for COVID-19 in late October, during which time Jack Sears led the Broncos to a big win over Air Force and injuries at the position, primarily to Sears himself, played a significant role in a blowout loss to BYU.
Sears pushed hard to claim the starting job on a more permanent basis through Boise State’s ongoing fall camp, but a lingering “lower body injury” hindered his chances.
Though freshman Taylen Green has also impressed observers during camp as well, Avalos also clarified that Sears will practice with the second-team offense in the run-up to the opener in Orlando.
