First reported by Action Network’s Brett McMurphy, the Broncos were thought to be a candidate to stay home and play in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl following a down year (at least for that program) in which they finished 7-5, including a 5-3 record in Mountain West play. However, Boise State will instead make their first appearance in the Arizona Bowl, which has taken place in Tucson since 2015.
Central Michigan, meanwhile, finished second in the MAC West division with a 8-4 overall record, which included a 6-2 record in conference action. The matchup makes for an interesting narrative, however, not only because it would mark the first clash between these two teams since 2001 but because CMU head coach Jim McElwain would get another chance to tally his first win against the Broncos: In three years at Colorado State, from 2012 to 2014, his Rams went 0-3 against Boise State. The Arizona Bowl will be streamed exclusively from Barstool Sports’ website on Friday, December 31, kicking off at 12:00 PM Mountain/11:00 AM Pacific.
