Rams Look For First Win Ever Against Boise State
The 2017 season hasn’t turned out the way Colorado State had hoped. Losers of 2 in a row and odds of a conference championship slim, head coach Mike Bobo has to find a way to get the Rams refocused for a showdown against Boise State Saturday night, under the lights at the On Campus Stadium in Ft. Collins. It’s the first ‘must win’ game of the season for Colorado State and it is also the debut of their ‘state-pride’ uniforms.
“We don’t control our destiny,” stated Bobo at his weekly press conference on Monday, “but what we do control is how we come back this week and play a team that’s one of the best teams in the conference at home. Wearing state pride and need to take pride in our football team, our performance and who we represent.”
Colorado State’s offense, the conference’s best, was stymied by Wyoming last weekend and it won’t get any easier this weekend. Boise State ranks 15th nationally in Total Defense allowing a paltry 307 yards per game which makes getting quarterback Nick Stevens and the rest of the Rams offense back on track a tall order.

Stevens had very pedestrian numbers a week ago and was only able to connect with senior wide receiver Michael Gallup on a 4 occasions. While senior running back Daylin Dawkins had rushed for over a 1,000 yards this season, the passing attack needs to get back into gear if the Rams are going to have any chance of scoring points on Saturday.
Defensively, Colorado State will have to prepare for your typical Boise State offense. A multi-look, trick play unit that now has two quarterbacks who sometimes rotate on a per play basis. 2016 Mountain West Player of the Year Brett Rypien will get most of the snaps while senior transfer Montell Cozart brings a dual threat dimension to the Broncos attack.
“They’re a good offensive football team,” commented Bobo at the press conference. “They know how to scheme you. They know how to formation and personnel you to get the answers they want offensively.” In non-coach speak that means that Boise State presents a lot of problems defensively for Colorado State.
Colorado State will debut their State Pride uniforms. The predominantly white uniforms will feature the Colorado state flag on the shoulders and the ‘C’ from the flag on the helmet. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30pm MST and can been seen on CBS Sports Network.
